Progressive Signature Bill Shot Down in Bipartisan Senate Floor Vote

Wednesday, in a bipartisan vote (22-20) SB 252, the End of Life Options Act, met its death on the Senate floor in Santa Fe.

This bill was the Senate version of HB 171, which the progressives had refused to vote on in the House Judiciary Committee because it would have been tabled in committee.  We wrote about this a couple weeks ago here.

The American Medical Association has come out against assisted suicide, instead laying out the kind of care patients should be offered during their last days, explaining, Instead of engaging in assisted suicide, physicians must aggressively respond to the needs of patients at the end of life.

Assisted suicide legislation, such as that introduced this year in New Mexico, is supported and pushed by George Soros and the organization he helps fund, Compassion & Choices.  This organization has the funds to take any objections to assisted suicide to court and they have been involved in over 75% of Oregon’s reported assisted suicides.
