The New Mexico House of Representatives is trying to pass a resolution banning guns in the House of Representatives, the resolution reads:
A RESOLUTION
AMENDING THE HOUSE RULES TO PROHIBIT THE CARRYING OF FIREARMS IN THE HOUSE.
WHEREAS, House Rule 24-1 provides that the rules of the house of representatives may be amended by a two-thirds’ vote of all the members of the house or by a majority vote of the members of the house upon the recommendation of the house rules and order of business committee;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that a new house rule be adopted to read:
“No person carrying a firearm, except a law enforcement officer, shall be permitted to enter the house chamber, galleries, lounge, hallways or committee rooms.”.
This resolution is not a big deal? Maybe not in itself at first, but it is the drip, drip, drip that erodes our rights and freedoms. As always, this is the Left and hardcore Democrat’s tactic…
Remember, our state Constitution says:
No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons. No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.
– Article 1. Sec 6. of NM State Constitution
Take action, contact the House!
Contact your representative (use the easy search tool here) and tell him or her that you OPPOSE Resolution 3.
Why should we care? Because banning guns shouldn’t be a high priority. Who is afraid of mere inanimate objects? As the Democrats are always saying, “If you don’t want [one], don’t get [one].” Let the rest of us do as we choose– yhere’s no need to be paranoid because of the presence of a few guns.

Political Fireball 
There’s nothing wrong with checking one’s firearms or one’s hat at the door. Given that mentally ill people and felons regularly purchase and carry guns, no ne should have a weapon in a public building except for law enforcement. That said, law enforcement should be trained to use their guns much more judiciously than has occurred recently!

Why is it wrong for citizens to be armed and able to protect themselves?

There’s nothing wrong with responsible citizens being prepared to defend themselves or the Nation. The problem arises that there is a large number of felons, criminals, wife beaters, and people who are mentally ill who are eligible to purchase and do purchase firearms with little trouble. Why is it necessary to have a loaded gun in the State Capital? Why is it unnecessary to demonstrate that you are competent? Perhaps we could have a down payment, sort of an insurance policy, for gun owners to purchase to make sure that when the odd one out shoots someone accidentally or deliberately, there is at least an immediate fund for the survivors? What might you propose?
