New Mexico’s Gun Control Legislation: Republican Benedict Arnolds

HB-77 a bill requiring all people buying guns at gun shows to go through a background check and registration passed the House yesterday, more on it can be found in my blogpost yesterday here.  As explained in yesterday’s article Gov. Susana Martinez has said she will sign the bill if it reaches her table.  There bill may be found here.

Eight Republicans joined the Democrats in supporting this bill.  Without their support, the bill would have barely passed.  A few Democrats actually had more common sense than our own Republicans and voted against the bill.

As it stands, the votes were as follows:

Absent: 1   Yeas: 43   Nays: 26

Without the eight Republican traitors we would have had:

Absent: 1   Yeas: 35   Nays: 34

If you wish to contact these Republican Representatives who have earned the Benedict Arnold award for furthering leftist ideology by voting for this bill, you can find them listed below.  Nate Gentry who is the Republican Minority Whip deserves special attention:

No law shall abridge the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, for lawful hunting and recreational use and for other lawful purposes, but nothing herein shall be held to permit the carrying of concealed weapons. No municipality or county shall regulate, in any way, an incident of the right to keep and bear arms.

  – Article 1. Sec 6. of NM State Constitution

EIGHT Republicans in our House that have proven they do not understand the Republican concept of personal responsibility. They have little care for the party whose banner they ran under.   Our nation has a rich history because of our freedoms, not from a false notion of ‘security.’

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.                                                                              – Benjamin Franklin

Punishing the good for the deeds of a handful of criminals and mentally unstable people does not help us. Law-breakers will only find another way to obtain firearms if this gives them trouble. The only step that will completely keep guns from being bought by criminals is complete registration. But some people once deemed stable become idiots, like ex-LAPD cop Christopher Dorner, so maybe confiscation is the best move to make us ‘safe’ in the end?!  Law breakers will always be able to get Firearms on the black market or steal one from those that can still legally have one despite the restrictions.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

– Second Amendment to the United States Constitution
